Devil

1228 DIABOLOS (37): an adversary or enemy. When the definite article ("the") is supplied in the Greek text, reference is to a specific spiritual being whose TITLE is, "the Adversary, or the Devil." See "satan" (4567 satanas) for the PERSONAL NAME of the Adversary. Comp. "demon" (1140 daimonion).

The diabolos is really the "Enemy" of each human, but "Adversary" is a preferable translation because "adversary" describes his function, and the primary Greek word for "enemy" is echthros (2190); but "Devil" would also be an acceptable translation.
